Oliver had a private speech assessment today. At home. They come to us!
The NHS are fab at what they do they really are. Due to COVID everything is super delayed and I just don’t feel we have time to waste so, as we haven’t been happy with any speech therapy input we are looking elsewhere.
The lovely lady I met today has given me so much hope and confirmed lots of things we already knew - Oliver is so alert, engaged and switched on so we will give speech our best shot!
Speech is not promised with his syndrome but hopefully lots of hard work and determination will mean that he may atleast be able to tell us when he is in pain, his favourite food or useful phrases.
I am on a makaton course next week so that we can work on ALL the signs at home - he now uses two already!
Early intervention is key. Everyone keeps saying it yet then don’t seem to take into consideration everything has been put on hold for the best part of a year!
Gerring therapies Oliver should be entitled to and mostly certainly deserves just feels like a constant battle.... one I will continue to fight!
